Roman coins found on the trackway

Aerial photographs show two sets of trackway ditches extending across the site. Those from the north are linked with prehistoric ring ditches and enclosures and perhaps surprisingly appear to be a continuation of a present day 'lane' passing Sains Hall. Toward the south west of our area this track turns in the Heybridge direction.

South of Lofts Farm was a distinctively different straight Roman trackway. This would have provided a direct link to Heybridge for a Roman settlement in Lofts field LFA and also a Roman gravel quarry on the far side of Slough House Farm.
