Finds from the site were cleaned, marked with their context number, and then packaged by
members of the Maldon Archaeological Group.
When the hoard was discovered in 1985, it was excavated as a cube of soil. After being X-rayed at Maldon Hospital by a very helpful radiologist, the "lump" was then taken to Colchester Museum where it was carefully excavated and recorded (COLEM-1985.44).
In 1996, all the excavation finds were taken to an Essex County Council workshop where they were re-sorted and re-packaged in durable cardboard boxes. At this time, the pottery was also "spot-dated" by archaeologist Nigel Brown, and all this information was recorded on a spreadsheet.
Five years later, the whole collection was taken to Colchester Museum where we hoped a detailed report of the pottery could be carried out (COLEM-2001.105).
